EDIT: looks like napa had a proper brass replacement fitting with a nipple for a traditional flare. Its a very unusual size, I didnt expect them to have one. Just another reason to patronize their store.

Little help with an issue? Some oddness with the vacuum for my brake booster

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

There is a port in the back of my carb for this little brass piece above. There is a hardline that goes back to this vacuum .... Check valve? On my brake booster. Not sure why it is designed like this, or even if any of this is original. The issue I am having is that the fitting for the line does not allow the line to fully seat in the brass adapter. The hardline still has about 1/8th of an inch of travel before it seats fully. Also, it appears as if the threads on the hardline do not match the brass adapter, like it has been cross threaded or fine vs course pitch but I cant really tell by looking.

Any insight would be marvelous

Well, my “guesses” are...

This would be the primary vacuum supply for the master cylinder, conveniently drawn from the “vacuum” side of the carb interface. So, that’s easy.

Also, yeah, that would be a one-way check valve to hold vacuum for the master cylinder, even in conditions of throttle blades being open.

HOWEVER, the use of “brass fittings”, presumably in NPT thread, in an automotive application strikes me as peculiar. The odd fitting-and-seating is possibly mis-use of a plumbing NPT piece in an automotive application. I’d try to figure what your threads are you’re seating into— then get the appropriate fitting.

YMMV

Gimme a close up of the female brass threads including the bottom.  Gimme a shot of the male nut and tube flare.

I don't know how it is from the factory, but on my car it's a nipple on the carb to a rubber hose to a check valve that mounts to the actual booster. I don't know that I've seen a hard line, though I like it.

NAPA had a replacement fitting that would work, so gladly I dont have to deal with whatever fuckery it is.

Luckily na pa had a fitting adapter of such a unique size that would work.

I would try to just get a nipple in whatever thread the carb has and run new soft lines with the check valve inline.

Napa is truly great in so many respects.  My favorite parts store by a country mile.

Brake booster check valves are overrated. I replaced mine with bottle cap wrapped in electric tape.

My only gripe is all the napas in my area close too early.
